Our history

TLMM is one of the leading organizations in Myanmar that empowers and enables people affected by leprosy and persons with disabilities by implementing barrier free interventions for ending leprosy and community development.

We are part of The Leprosy Mission, an international Christian leprosy – focused organisation, a key player in the fight against leprosy. It consists of Members from 30 different countries. We work with people of all faiths and none, to bring about the defeat of leprosy and transformation in the lives of people affected, partnering with the local church and other stakeholders.

The Leprosy Mission Myanmar (TLMM) is a Christian, non-government organization that started work in 1898 through the Mawlamyine Christian Leprosy Hospital (MCLH). Over the years we expanded work to several regions of Myanmar and on 24th September 2018 we became a locally registered NGO (with Ministry of Union Government Office, Registration Number: 1/Local/0960), and part of Myanmar’s local NGOs Civil Society. We are led and governed by a group of seven Christian board members, respected leaders in their different walks of lives.
